The Lords first came to the Mitta Valley in the 1860’s and following a career in mining moved into beef farming. David & Nola are the 5th Generation farmers and their son Gavin is now the 6th. Their properties “Bushbank” and “Evergreen” cover an area around about 1100 acres along the Mitta River and Spring creek, including some bush leases. They have 280 breeders both a Hereford and Angus straight bred Herd and a small number of first cross calves. Recently they have been using Witherswood Angus & Yavenvale Hereford Bulls. The cattle are grazed on mostly Clover and Rye pastures, they yard wean their calves at about 9-10 months of age, and the calves are put onto the river flats to fatten as well as being supplemented with silage. They are very proud producers of Mitta Valley Beef, and their calves compliment the ideals introduced by the Co-op.
